Map Legend
Frankfurt am Main restricted zones.
No restriction identified by this map — additional rules may still apply.
The 100-metre reference does not guarantee that cannabis consumption is legal at a specific location. Private property rules (Hausrecht) always override public allowances.
Understanding the 100-Metre Rule
The German Cannabis Act (§5 KCanG) prohibits the consumption of cannabis "in the immediate vicinity" of persons under 18 years of age and near specific facilities designed for minors.
The law defines "immediate vicinity" as being within line of sight of the entrance to these facilities. Crucially, the law states that line of sight is legally considered interrupted at a distance of 100 metres from the entrance.
Protected Facilities Include:
- Schools
- Children's Playgrounds
- Public Sports Facilities
- Youth Centres & Facilities
The Pedestrian Zone Curfew
Consumption in pedestrian zones is strictly prohibited between 7:00 am and 8:00 pm.
This is a federal rule applied nationwide. If an area in Frankfurt is officially designated as a pedestrian zone (Fußgängerzone), you cannot smoke or vape cannabis there during daytime hours. The most prominent example in Frankfurt is the Zeil shopping street. Even after 8:00 pm, you must still ensure you are not violating the 100m rule regarding any nearby playgrounds or youth facilities.
Famous Frankfurt Landmarks
How the rules generally apply to popular locations in the city. Always verify your immediate surroundings.
Zeil, Hauptwache & Konstablerwache
As major pedestrian zones, the 7:00 am to 8:00 pm ban strictly applies here. Due to the high density of people and potential minors, police presence is high.
Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof
Deutsche Bahn has banned cannabis consumption entirely across all its stations, platforms, and immediate forecourts using their private property rights (Hausrecht).
Römerberg & Mainkai
Highly touristic areas. While not entirely pedestrian zones everywhere, you must be extremely vigilant about proximity to children, schools, or playgrounds in the Altstadt.
Museumsufer
The riverbank is popular, but contains numerous playgrounds and sports facilities. The 100-metre visibility rule applies heavily along the green spaces.
Messe Frankfurt
The trade fair grounds are private property. Messe Frankfurt's house rules generally prohibit cannabis consumption on the premises.
Deutsche Bank Park
The stadium and surrounding sports complex fall under the prohibition for public sports facilities, aside from the stadium's own strict house rules.
Important Disclaimer
This informational map and guide do not constitute legal advice. Urban environments are dense, and a school, kindergarten, or playground may be hidden around a corner or inside a residential block.
If you are unsure whether you are 100 metres away, or if children or minors are in your immediate vicinity, do not consume. The responsibility to ensure compliance with the KCanG rests entirely with the individual consumer.
